Fast Food has invaded us, beware of your Health

Have you ever thought about what Fast Food really is? Let’s have a closer look at it. Fast Food has entered our modern-day life in a big way. People do not realize the devastating effects it can have on your health and the health of your family. You come home from work and do not have the energy to think about and even less to cook a full meal from scratch.

Parents are both working, so what is easier than to open the deep freezer and put a ready meal in the microwave oven. Microwave ovens are also bad for your health. On top comes the radiation, which has a radius of 20 meters.

What is Fast Food?

Everything which comes out of a bag, pack, or box and is wrapped up.
This type of food is easily digested and absorbed into your bloodstream, but as it has no real nutrients, nor much fiber, it will not keep you feeling full and satisfied for long. This food you will not only find in the so-called fast-food restaurants. Many restaurants opt for pre-prepared food to save time.

Nowadays people are always in a hurry so the ordered food has to appear pronto on the plate. In southern countries like Spain, Portugal or Italy the tradition of having long and relaxed lunches still exists but also in these countries it is getting rarer. People do not take hour-long midday breaks to eat anymore.

Explosive growth in the fast food market

The global fast-food market is growing, and that means there will also be a growing demand for packaged food. It seems the times where the complete family would gather around the table and spent quality time with each other while eating natural food might not come back.

Each of the family members has different timetables, so it is difficult to find the right time where everybody can have a meal together.

A nice memory

This reminds me of a delightful experience I had in 1974. I made a trip to Bangkok and the Philippines. In Manila, I had the honor to have lunch with a famous artist. This older lady was a well-known jewelry designer and had won first place in a contest in Asia. She had made a necklace of peace doves, beautiful; I saw a photo.

Arriving at her house, the whole family greeted me, including a group of grandchildren.

The table was enormous and round. In the middle, a bit elevated, was a second smaller round table on which they placed the food. This smaller table could rotate, so it was easy to reach for the different dishes on display. I spent some lovely hours talking about this and that with this welcoming and friendly family. No need to say the food was delicious.

What is considered fast food?

Let’s have a look at what fast food is exactly.
The list is long, here come some examples:
French fries, fried in unhealthy fats.
Bagels and croissants, wheat, sugar, and bad fats.
Energy bars, seemingly good as a pep me up but loaded with sugars.
Soda, loaded with sugars and nothing else but chemicals.
Frozen entrees, these foods have a lot of additives, too much salt, and sugar, and fat.
Products made with white flour, also sugar, fat, and additives.
Deli meats and cheeses, preservatives, plastic in the cheese, no good what so ever.

We are getting fatter

Obesity is on the rise, especially in western countries. We have an overload of food but as a whole are undernourished. Big companies like McDonald’s, KFC, Nestle are having their greedy eyes on developing countries.

People are getting hooked on the taste and therefore in places like Brasil, Ghana, China, and India obesity is also on the rise. Health issues previously nearly unknown in these countries are now becoming common.

Are you prepared to suffer the health risks?

Let’s talk about the health risks you are open to if you eat fast food. There again the list is long and frightening, to say the least.
Diabetes and obesity are first on the list, this one probably understands but that it also makes you more vulnerable to premature cardiac death, cancer and stokes might be a novelty. These foods are altering your brain, making you prone to depressions and mental illnesses. What you eat affects your brain, and the result could be Alzheimer’s and dementia.

This video shows you that things are often different from what you think.

If people eat a lot of fast food, they change. They can develop depressions and also become more aggressive. Fast food people have a 51% chance to develop depression as their brain does not get clean fuel, so to speak. This applies to people who eat 2 servings of fast food a week. This information came out of a study published in The Public Health Journal.

French-Fries

Do not eat french fries

In the Journal of Adolescence Health. they found that only 1 time a week eating these bad French fries while being a teenager could augment your risk of getting breast cancer by 27%.

One thing which is well worth mentioning is that children who eat a well-balanced and healthy diet will be less hyperactive, less moody, and more cooperative. At a young age, one should educate your child’s taste buds. Giving it sweet foods, too much salt, and bad oils will develop a liking for it and this habit is nearly impossible to get rid of once grown up.

The science of food addiction explains these bad foods have a biochemical effect on your brain. To say it easy to understand, you become addicted to fast food. Fast food rules you, do you want that?

You are what you eat

Dr. Fuhrman has written a new book with the Title: Fast Food Genocide.
You are what you eat, that is a fact. If you put bad petrol in your car, it will not drive far. This applies to the human body also.

The food you eat influences if you live a long and healthy life. Be informed, as that is the first step in the right direction.

An afterthought

To go from nearly total fast food to nearly all healthy food is difficult. It requires a reeducation of your tastebuds. Some people prefer to do it slowly like substitute 1item each week for something more healthy. Other people like to make a drastic change. Only healthy food with now and then a minor sin. Whatever way you choose, better start now than later.

Even if you are in your forties or fifties, it will still have a very positive result on your health. You might opt for having a health check and an extensive blood test made. Repeat the blood test after 6 months and you will be in for a surprise.

When you reach 70 years of age and you can say I feel great and I do not take any chemical pills, you can thank the change in food for this significant result.

I have made a special page for you with a collection of things I find interesting. Before you leave, have a look at Recommendations.

Fast food is horrible, and the more I ready about it, the less I want to eat it. Every time I’m in the restaurant seeing little kid eating fries or other deep fried food, I just want to say to their mother something like “why don’t you care about your kids future so much?”. But it’s so common nowadays…. Sad.

    Good Morning Soby,

Thank you for visiting my website and reading my post on Fast Food. It is sad indeed that a lot of people do not think about the effect of food on their health. The more we turn away from nature the sicker we will get. Big Pharma will be very happy as the sicker we get the more money they will earn. It is good to hear that you have decided not to eat this food.

Matt's Mom

I would have to agree with you!  My son did competitive gymnastics for 16 years, and the coaches are very strict on what they eat, which does not include fast food or processed foods.  So we have learned to eat well.  We don’t eat anything out of a box or a can.  I try to prepare all meals with fresh ingredients.  It really is the healthiest way to eat!

    Good Morning,

Thank you for your comment on my website. I hope you have downloaded your free PDF?

I have often wondered why men always want to improve on nature, nature does it most of the times a lot better. I also like to eat healthily, so it is really not often I make something with men made products. Living on a farm I also have the possibility to grow things myself.

This is an amazing and important article to read today. Fast food is one of the important issues nowadays and it’s growing more day by day. This article had everything you needed to know about Fast Food.

I learned about what exactly is fast food, how it affects our body, what are the health risks and a lot more about fast food.

After reading this article it made me realize the importance of taking care of myself when it comes to eating fast food.  Thank you so much for sharing this article.

    Good Morning Sunjadar,

Nice to see you again. Thank you for leaving a comment on my website.

What we eat is so important. When one is young one does not think so much about the effect certain foods have on our health. When one gets older one will suffer the consequences of bad food choices. So, the sooner one starts to eat the good things the better.

Great post and good info.

Of course fast food isn’t healthy, but honestly, the majority of the people don’t care.

It is bad for your heart, your fat, cholesterol and we can continue like that.

Ive asked to some people why they choose it, and the answer was quite simple.

It is cheap, and you eat it fast and it is delicious.

And about the question of their health, they answered: Oh, we exercise and we only eat it a few times a month.

I think the government has to do campaigns against it, but I don’t know if they will do it

Anyway, thanks for sharing it, this post has to go viral.

    Good Morning Emmanuel,

Nice to see you again. Thank you for your comment.

I do not think the governments will really do much. The whole system would collapse if they did. We should not forget so much money is made with health. If suddenly everybody does not get sick any more many companies and organizations lose their business. No more pills or treatments are sold etc and etc.

Health we know is wealth. Also, we are what we eat. We should be careful about what we eat most especially fast food. Fast food has so many side effects on the overall well-being of an individual. This website has stated out the dangers involved in eating fast food. You want to know more, check it out at healthyantiagingalternatives.

If we want to have a good life we have to remain healthy as you cannot enjoy life while being sick. Be informed about things and do not be fooled in believing all the advertisements which misinform.

As the name implies fast food, is actually always fast to get , easy accessible, I think is only through determination that can make one not consider it at all. Is very dangerous for the health we all know that but is not easy to stop eating this by some people. This article really brought more knowledge on it. Great

    Good morning Sandra,

Good to hear you found this article useful. It is sad that people are misled with advertisements which do not tell the truth. We are constantly bombarded with false information on what is healthy or not. The more we turn to nature the better our health will be.

Thanks for this article which is an awakening call. I feel guilty because I am a regular eater of most of the food items you’ve listed as fast food.

It’s not good enough for me to only admit my bad eating habits. After reading your article I feel I’ve been given the nudge to take action or risk developing obesity-related illnesses.

I am really pleased you touched on the struggle people sometimes have to balance up work and cooking healthy meals. I relate to this. I need to sit down and come up with a plan that works.

I do hope you will be able to make healthy changes in your diet. One should take these things seriously. As long one is healthy all seems ok, the moment you lose your health life will be no fun anymore. As our cells renew themselves it is never too late to make a change. That means you can be healthier when older compared to when you were young.

I completely agree with you about fast foods.

I very rarely let my family have fast foods, in fact we don’t have any except one. Very occasionally we go to a very good “Fish and Chip” shop (as we are in the UK!!) where they are careful to give the origins of all the food that they use, and we have some succulent fish and a very few chips! But that is very occasional I must stress!

Apart from that, I am very careful about foods, and always cook from scratch or have healthy salads.

I was interested to read your post about Fats as well, and again I am in total agreement. I always thought that “low fat” foods were a bad idea, and I use butter (no spreads), virgin cold-pressed Olive Oil or organic Hemp Oil, as I know that it is not good to use Olive Oil at a high temperature. And I was so happy to have my views about Coconut Oil confirmed – I always use the organic Coconut Oil when I use it.

I also only buy organic full fat Greek style yogurt.

Avocados too – one of my favourite snacks, and I probably do have one a day, just as it comes without any dressing.

For cereals, we have organic porridge oats cooked for about 5 minutes and served with NO sugar, but with Chia seeds, Flaxseeds, clementines, blueberries and a banana on top – delicious!!

You would be hard put to find any sweet things in my house (except at Christmas and similar occasions when I make my own Christmas puddings, mince pies and Christmas cakes, all with the minimum amount of sugar, and sometimes with none!

I think that your message is really important – the more people who realise the damage that can be caused by fast foods, the better. Very many thanks for your post.

Chrissie 🙂

    Good Morning Chrissie,

Reading your comment I can tell you were are very similar. As I live on a farm in the south of Spain I can grow a lot of things myself. I have orange, lemon, grapefruit, mandarin, avocado, plum, nectarines, and a vegetable garden plus some happy chickens.

I have gone through my own food evolution. I skipped the soy products a long time ago. I only drink coconut milk. I eat all kinds of nuts and seeds on a daily basis. Greek yogurt and also Kefir with some real honey I get in the village. These days I  had the private water checked and it is of very good quality. Extra virgin olive oil is a must and I cook with normal olive oil. Then the good air and some work in the garden keep me in decent shape.

It is not so easy to stay healthy these days as one is bombarded with false advertisements. The best thing is to be informed.

Thank you for your visit and leaving a comment. I hope you downloaded your free PDF?

Hi! Thank you very much for this post. It has put me to think about how fast food is devastating us. Among the New Year resolutions, I have “eat healthier”. And this may not be a major concern for me only. I’ll definitely read Dr. Fuhrman’s book, “Fast Food Genocide.”

I am sadly watching how in Italy having long and relaxed lunches are becoming rarer. And the important place that “la tavola” (the table) had in Italian culture is starting to fall in disuse. Thank you very much for this post.

    Good Morning Henry,

I lived in Italy between 1969 and 1974. I love the country and the food. The mother of my that time fiance used to make homemade pasta, delicious

I hope you are successful and stick to your New Years resolution. It will not always be easy but your body will thank you

Thank you for your comment, I hope to see you again.

I never knew the negative aspects of fast food until I read this post that exposed alot about fast food, it’s funny how we don’t care about our health anymore, by eating more of these fries and fast food we tend to give ourselves health issues,  I used to be a fan of fast food but right now, I Quit!!!!

Eating healthy these days is not something that many people do anymore, which is a bad thing because since when I was young, my mum has always told me that cooking my food at home is way better. With home cooked food, you choose the healthy ingredients and know what you eat.

The fast-food restaurants and companies do not make healthy food. It has too many harmful and no natural ingredients which can make you sick and on the long run cause all kinds of ailments. It is sad that many people do not realize that what you eat has an influence on your overall health.

    Good Morning Susan,

Thank you for stopping by and for your comment. I hope you downloaded your free PDF? Tulip widget.

Over the years, the food industry has developed some nasty things. Food has to have a long shelf life, and that means it is full of additives. I have a book where you read what those Es mean. It is hair raising what things they put in food. It is always good to read labels. If you cannot pronounce the word and do not know what it means, you better leave it standing.

Cook your meals with fresh produce, if possible organic, and you will notice your health will improve.

    Regards, Taetske
