The Salt of the Earth and the Sea

Incorrect information of the American Heart Association

Salt has been getting a very bad rap for a long time, doctors telling their patients to cut down or even eliminate it completely from their diets. This bad reputation is justified if we are talking about Refined Salt, the plain old refined table salt which is stripped of all the good things it originally had.

The American Heart Association tells us that the sodium in salt raises blood pressure and increases the risk of stroke and heart disease.

Science has come up with contrary evidence. A new study in The Lancet shows that a low-salt diet heightens the risk.

Data of some 133,118people was analyzed. The researchers wanted to see if they could find a link between high sodium and heart attack, stroke, and death.
Those people on a “healthy” low-salt diet were more at risk than the people on the moderate sodium intake in their diets.

We, humans, need salt and too little of it can even cause heart disease. But we do not need the refined type which often contains harmful anti-caking agents, some have even been related to heavy metal toxicity and kidney problems. Sodium Acetate added as a preservative can elevate blood pressure.

An excellent book for your library

The book by Dr. James DiNicolantonio explains very well how we have been misled for so long. It explains the reasons why salt got a bad reputation and instead of going salt free, you do need it for your health.

Good Salt versus bad Salt

We need to add the unrefined sea salt, which is good as it regulates your metabolism, boosts your immune system, keeps your bones strong just to name a few. It is filled with nutrients and minerals.

Over 80 trace minerals can be found in naturally filtered saltwater. It contains magnesium, potassium, selenium, copper, iron, and zinc, etc. Salt is filled with electrolytes important in maintaining your fluid balance.

Changing your diet to keep track of your salt is important. Men-made foods have hidden salt, and it is of the bad sort. Take care of bread, frozen meals, pizza, cured meats, and things in a tin like soup, sauces, etc. The more natural you eat, the better.

It is quite amazing everything Mother Earth offers us. If you want to inform yourself of the many salt types that exist you should check the salt list of Wikipedia. When you see this extensive list once again it is hard to understand why we have this need to better nature, but then the end product is harmful to us.

Himalayas

The Healthy Himalaya Salt

The Himalayas, the tallest mountains in the world, might be more than 450 million years old. That is what a new study of 2003 states. Previously it was assumed that the mountain range was created by the collision of Asia and India some 55 million years ago. Some 250 million years ago, that place was a primordial sea. This sea evaporated and its minerals crystallized, forming the salt.

Himalayan salt is rock salt, which is mined in Pakistan in the Punjab region. Its composition is similar to table salt with 98% sodium chloride. Then there are trace minerals like calcium, magnesium, and potassium, which give the salt a pinkish color and also a different flavor. It usually does not contain additives.

Have a look at this YouTube video and make an amazing tour of the second largest salt mine in the world.

I have been taking Himalayan salt with lemon juice the first thing in the morning for quite a long time. Professional athletes and Olympians also do this, as it has multiple health benefits.
Himalayan salt can also be used for a soothing bath.
It is important to eat salt, but be careful in your choice of which type of salt you add to your diet.

It improves your digestion, decreases uric acid to fight inflammation, it increases your immune function. It aids in proper water and food absorption. Your body’s acidity (pH) is balanced as the combination of lemon and salt has an alkalizing effect.

It is a great detox for your cells pulling out the toxins and in doing so your risk of chronic disease is reduced. It clears up the skin. Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius doctor used salt for skin diseases, according to Science Tribune (1999) It is used for psoriasis and eczema.

Himalayan salt lamps

You might consider introducing a Himalayan salt lamp in your life. You can have it standing on your desk where you work on your computer and perhaps also have a TV standing. It is said to have positive influences on your health as the negative ions released by the lamp help counteract the positive ions emitted by electronic devices. A blog by Dr.Axe goes into more detail.

Here, in this YouTube video, the health benefits of having Himalayan salt lamps standing in your house are explained. Personally, I am especially interested that it seems to neutralize the negative effects of EMFs. 5 G is here and you cannot do enough to protect yourself.

In summary

As long as you do not have a higher intake than 2.5 teaspoons of salt a day, all seems to be good. Have a look at this scientific study.

Introduce the right kind of salt in your life like that, you will have the benefits. Stay away from the bad salt, as that has serious effects on your health. When it is your health it really is worthwhile to do some investigation and not always blindly believe what is the norm. Sadly, a lot of big companies do not give priority to your health. They often have money interest behind it and not your wellbeing.

Recently another disturbing issue has surfaced. This is something that we have caused and it is getting worse by the day. You all will know about plastic pollution in our world. Plastic can be found nearly everywhere.

Did you know that nowadays most salts are contaminated with microplastic? It is getting more and more difficult to take care of your own health. The best you can do is to investigate really well before choosing which salt to buy.

I have a special page of Recommendations for my visitors. You might care to take a look before you leave.

    Good Morning Jesse,

Is is not amazing? we were told that salt is bad for you for a long time and now know that not to be true. This applies to many more things we eat every day. Take for example sugar, all manmade foods are full of it and we still eat it. I have a post on sugar, perhaps you read that information also. I personally think we should try and eat as natural as possible as nature provides us with everything we need.

I found the information I just read about salt consumption very interesting. I already knew the health benefits of Himalayan salt, but I was pleasantly surprised to know about the combination of this type of salt with lemon.

    Good Evening Juan,

Thank you for leaving a comment on my website. There are so many healthy things provided by nature. Himalayan salt is one of them and then the combination with lemon juice, organically grown lemons, of course, heighten the positive effect. Please visit again as I write a new post once a week.

Honestly, it never surprises me when studies come out against extremes. I find the same can be said for eliminating all fat or eliminating all carbs from a diet. Our bodies work best with a healthy balance while avoiding refined ingredients and this seems no different. One question I do have, is where does Kosher salt fall here? Is it better than table salt, but not as good as Sea or Himalayan? We also have a Himalayan salt lamp, and love it! Happy New Year!

    Good afternoon Steve,

Thank you for your good wishes, I hope your 2019 will be a good and healthy year. I hope you downloaded your free PDF?

I agree with you, extremes are never really good. These past years we were told many extreme stories about food. We were “guided” to buy new food inventions and it only took us further away from nature.

We do not need man-made fats, sugar etc. Neither additives, coloring, pesticides, nor GMO. Big Pharma and Food Giants are earning billions at the cost of our health.

You asked about Kosher Salt. That is a coarse edible salt but as it often has anticaking agents we should better not eat it.

    Regards, Taetske

Thanks for a great article about the health benefits of non-refined salt. As a plant based nutritionist I couldn’t agree more. Excess refined salt is bad for you and that is why I never add it to food. If you have a healthy balanced wholefood diet there is no need to add refined salt to it. This of course is the fact with pretty much all refined foods!! I do however use black Himalayan salt “Kala Namak” for both its health benefits and as a flavouring which I love and totally agree with your article about its health benefits. Thanks once again, I’ll be popping back to read more of your articles. Kevin

    Goid afternoon Kevin.

It is nice to meet somebody who is on the same wavelength. I keep most man-made foods out of my diet. The last time I was in a fast food place was in 1999 in the U.S. I was surprised to see the huge portions and people eating during the whole day, be it walking or driving a car. Sadly Europe is following this unhealthy example and the population is only getting sicker, so much for “better” Health care.

I live on a farm in the south of Spain and have the possibility to grow quite a few things myself. Also the eggs of my happy chickens I would not want to miss.

    Good afternoon Anis,

Thank you for visiting my website and leaving a comment. I hope you downloaded your free PDF?

I buy my Himalaya salt in the health food shop in town. I live in the south of Spain and it is easy to find here. It is a little bit more expensive than the normal bad salt but the difference is really not huge. It is good for your health and you do not eat spoonsful so it is doable. I am giving you the link of my EMF post, the salt lamp is a must. https://healthyantiagingalternatives.com/what-you-can-do-in-the-battle-against-emf-radiation

Clearly, we’ve been led to believe that regular intake of salt could be very harmful to our health. But it appears the concern is justified with the refined salts. I don’t doubt the numerous benefits that natural salt has on our health. As you mentioned, everything nature provides for us seems to be just perfect so the more natural we feed, obviously the better.

    Good afternoon Ikechukwu,

Thank you for stopping by and for leaving a comment. I hope you downloaded your free PDF?

There is a lot of misinformation in our world. The misinformation on health is especially serious as it implies certain people filling their pockets while the majority is getting sicker.

Normally the food found in nature is perfect but it becomes a problem when people mess around with it.

I think that this article is very useful and helpful.

I found the information I just read very interesting. I already knew the health benefits of Himalayan salt, but I was surprised to know about the combination of this type of salt with lemon.

Thanks for a great article about the health benefits of non-refined salt. I agree with your article about its health benefits.

Thanks once again.

    Good Morning Rosalia,

The misinformation we have been suffering over decades is enormous. Remember the ad where a pregnant mother was told she should smoke? Most of the time this misinformation is related to money. It is not our health that is important. That is why we have to be informed and not blindly believe what we are being told.

Thank you for stopping by and for your comment. I hope you downloaded your free PDF? Tulip widget.
