How vitamins can slow down the onset of Alzheimer’s and help reduce the risk of brain disorder

In America, 5.5 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s. This is a modern time disease, and it has Western doctors baffled. No apparent cure is available, and members of the family see their loved ones fading away. Doctors do not study what the right nutrition can do. The power of nutrition is amazing.

People who suffer from dementia lose the memory of their lives, don’t even remember the names of their husbands or wives, children, grandchildren, and friends. Once again, we might find a solution to this grave problem by turning to nature.

The important role of vitamin B’s

There is new research that shows that a combination of B-complex vitamins can help to preserve brain volume. High levels of homocysteine can be linked to a higher risk of developing Alzheimer’s, and people with mild cognitive impairment often show a high level of homocysteine.

Homocysteine causes an increase in oxidative stress and damage to the blood-brain barrier. Taking B vitamins can lower homocysteine and arrest cognitive decline.

Broccoli

In a study published in the International Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry, a group of people over 70, having mild cognitive impairments, were given a daily dose of B vitamins (B9, 0.8 mg; B12, 0.5mg; B6, 20 mg a day.) This group showed a 30% decline in homocysteine levels compared to the control group.

Losing brain volume over time

It is normal to lose some 2% of brain volume every decade. With having Alzheimer’s, this loss is accelerated and there, it seems, vitamin B can play a positive role in reducing brain atrophy.
Vitamin B3 has shown to aid in protecting against neurodegeneration.

Eating grass-fed organ meats, wild-caught fish, organic broccoli and shitake mushrooms will aid in acquiring sufficient vitamin B. What you eat has to be organic as normally grown food is laden with harmful pesticides, so instead of helping your body to heal itself, you give it more to battle.

Another important vitamin

More positive news. There are more ways you can prevent dementia. Again it is a well-known vitamin, which is the answer to this modern times ailment. With a higher intake of vitamin C, one improves metabolism and one also lowers one’s risk of getting dementia.

What happens if you lack vitamin C

Up to 40% of the US population does not have adequate levels of this important nutrient, and that makes people prone to suffer chronic inflammation. Long-term inflammation is a situation in your body where your immune system has given up, and that means all kinds of nasty ailments are the result.

We are responsible for what we put into our bodies, and your quality of life will be the visible result. You do not expect your car to run on bad petrol, do you?

A new study shows the important link between feeling great and vitamin C. All these important discoveries are normally not published in the mainstream media, and one wonders why. Big Pharma is not interested in letting people know that such a simple thing as taking more vitamin C can help.

As Big Pharma spends handfuls of money on advertising harmful drugs, the places where these ads appear will think twice about going against them.

So the people ignore the good news about natural cures. One has heard stories about old times where people making long voyages on ships might run a risk for scurvy. Now, one knows we can avoid this with an adequate intake of vitamin C.

All the good things vitamin C can do for you

As vitamin C is such a powerful antioxidant, you need plenty of it every day. If you want smooth skin and fewer wrinkles, take vitamin C as Collagen needs it for its work. Also, for stronger bones and muscles and arteries and veins. Vitamin C also has an important role in eliminating heavy metals, it aids the digestive process and fights infections.

We cannot produce vitamin C ourselves, and therefore we should try to get it through food. When we are healthy, this might be enough, but keep in mind to eat organic vegetables and fruits otherwise one loads up on harmful things. When one is having a serious health issue, food will not be enough, so taking a supplement is called for.

Many experts recommend a very high dose of vitamin C, sometimes up to 10,000 mg a day. At a consumption of 500 mg 4 to 6 times a day, it kills cancer cells. The fact is that Western medicine thinks that small amounts are sufficient, but this is not true. When battling a serious illness you have to augment your intake of vitamin C considerably.

Spirulina

Have you heard about Spirulina? It is considered a superfood and has many health benefits.

If you used to have a high intake of bad fats in your diet over the years, it probably has built-up plaque in your brain. It reduces the blood flow to your brain, including getting oxygen up there.

The result can be brain fog, as you do not remember what you needed to do or why you have gone to a certain room in your house. You start to forget names and numbers and with time you do not recognize your loved ones.

Alzheimer’s, Dementia and Parkinson, these are devastating but mainly man-made modern time conditions that can be prevented with the right nutrition and lifestyle. Here you can read about why taking Spirulina is an excellent idea.

Conclusion

Modern time holds many more health hazards than, let’s say, 50 years ago. Most of these hazards we have created ourselves. Man-made foods are on top of the list. The air we breathe is polluted, the same as water. Everywhere pesticides are used on crops. We feed animals unnatural food and hormones. I just wonder why we are doing this to ourselves?

Alejandra

Hi,
I’m always looking to read about how I can keep on a healthy life, my mother in law had Alzheimer, so I saw in first place how bad it can be for people.
She was a nice old lady who used to work all her life to take care of her two sons as a single mom.
One day she was there but she wasn’t, it was hard for the two sons to see her day by day vanished.
It’s quite interesting your article about how we can work on Alzheimer and dementia before it happens.
How important is daily intake of vit. C
My husband always ask me why there’s so many Alzheimer cases here in Canada and not in Mexico.
I should say, in Mexico most of the people use to have a glass of orange juice every day with breakfast, freshly made. And we also have all kind of fresh fruits to have anytime.
Thanks for sharing this important article!
Alejandra.

    Good Morning Alejandra

Thank you for visiting my website and reading my post on Alzheimers and Dementia. The difference between Canada and Mexico for sure is big in food and lifestyle. Canada might be one of the riches countries but that does not automatically mean it also is one of the healtiest.
Probably more modern life stress, less sun and alegria, a bigger chance of buying man made foods, I think there will be a lot of factors contributing to getting Alzheimers and Dementia. We should not forget radiation and pollution. The more simple we eat and the foods being whole foods the better the chance is we stay healthy till we are really old. I hope to see you again.

Dr. Misty Baker

Thank you for this article!

Unfortunately, Alzheimer’s disease runs rapidly within my family. The effects are devastating. I have seen first hand numerous relatives slowly fade mentally all while their bodies are of perfect health.

I have also seen that no matter what medicines prescribed via doctors have been tried, no drastic improvement has been noted. This is such a sad fact!

I am a proponent for the B-Complex Vitamins as an alternative therapy for Alzheimer’s. I just recently stared my grandmother on a great dose of these!

I will give it a bit and come back and update on her progress! Hopefully we will see an improvement!

    Good afternoon Dr. Baker,

Thank you for visiting my website. Sorry to hear hear your family is suffering from this illness. I call it modern days ailments as we have it a lot more difficult than in old times to find the right and clean foods to eat. We are surrounded by all kinds of radiations, have bad water, our foods are man made and the list goes on. Remember there is a connection between the Gut and the Brain, what we eat affects our brain. Bad things will cross the blood brain barrier and will have a negative effect. Besides changing the things one eats an oveall cleanup of lifestyle will certainly help. With best wishes.

Rebecca

This is great information, Taetske.  Our diets here in North America tend to be pretty awful.  The amount of “convenience” food available that has practically zero vitamin content is kind of appalling.  I’m glad you’re sharing some natural ways to help prevent Alzheimer’s and dementia.  Diet is so important for brain health!

    Good evening Rebecca,

When I started with this website I started to investigate and a lot of things came to light. I know that in America people are suffering from bad food. Too much GMO. pesticides, man-made foods, sugar and additives, the list is long.

Nature offers so much but we always think we can improve on her. Like that, we have separated from nature and look what has happened to our health.

I’ve always known the importance of obtaining your vitamins. My hardest part is just eating them, with so many choices I feel like it can be really hard to even consume quality food sources. I don’t think the motivation to eat good sources of vitamins is going to come to me and I should probably just start doing it too.

Daniella

Hi Taetske,

Awesome article, I found it very interesting!

It’s incredible how many people in the world get Alzheimer. I don’t know anyone that is affected by this disease, but it’s interesting how vitamin C can improve health. It’s about ten years now that I drink a glass of water with lemon and omega 3 in the morning. I didn’t know though that vitamin C is also good for the skin and reduce wrinkles:) Awesome:)

What if one takes too much of vitamin C? Is this could be dangerous?

Thank you!

    Good evening Daniella,

Nice to see you again. Thank you for your comment.

Too much Vit. C from natural sources is not really a problem as the body will eliminate it. If you get too much Vit. C from supplements you might have some stomach problems.

I also drink lemon juice with water on an empty stomach in the morning, very good.

I believe the link between our lifestyles (our choice) and our environment (not always our choice) and diseases such as Alzheimers and Dementia that you highlight are absolutely correct. We can all do much more to help ourselves by educating ourselves in how to lead a healthy lifestyle, eat the right foods, etc, but we are limited by what’s going on around us in terms of poor agricultural and industrial practices. It’s very ironic that it’s in the richer, more developed countries that we’re more likely so experience the things you write about here. I’ve been making the effort to be more health conscious for a number of years now, such as eating plenty of fruit and vegetables and to that end I grow my own organically. What I was unaware of is how much vitamins B and C can help combat things like Alzheimers. Such a well written and informative post, thank you so much for sharing.

    Good Morning Richard,

The fact that not all people care about what they eat, they are neither interested in finding out and rather follow. the very misleading advertisements promoting healthy when it is very unhealthy makes it very difficult to have a healthy population.

You are right, the so-called richer countries are the ones who have this problem. The many years it takes to become a medical doctor but they only get 4 hours on nutrition shows how wrong the whole setup is. Also, the fact that FDA is buddies with Big Pharma and lately was even joined by the EPA one just wonders how come as they should actually care about peoples health.

I think a Global protest and a boycott would do the trick but how do you get all people interested, angry and then to act?

I am also lucky to live on an organic farm and the nearest cell tower is 1 km away.

Thank you for your comment. I hope you downloaded your free PDF?

I know healthy eating or eating normal foods is not the cure for everything, but I firmly believe that eating the right foods is the closet people can get to a magic pill. Just as you said, the power of nutrition is powerful, and I believe that eating healthy can improve many illnesses, conditions etc. . . I still think more studies should be conducted to see how food can help those with Alzheimer’s or how it can reduce the risks of getting it.

Food is one part of the total picture. One should look at the lifestyle and see if the people get regular exercise also for their brain. Living in a community helps, living alone when older does not. Good water and good air are important and let us not forget radiation which sadly seems to has to form part of modern life.

I am completely convinced that nature provides for our needs. Not only does it provide food but has a solution for nearly all ailments. Modern life has come up with a lot of strange illnesses but they are only the consequences we have to pay for turning away from nature.

Dear Taetske,

Thanks a lot for the informative and helpful article.

Indeed, one of my aunt suffer from Alzheimer and it’s really a big challenge and struggle for her and for everyone in the family which can’t be described in words.

Mother nature provides solution for everything but we often forget mother nature. You not only discussed the problem but you also provided with the solution which is very helpful. The importance of vitamin B is an eye-opener and thanks for sharing the helpful list of foods in which we can acquire vitamin B.

Read a lot about Vitamin C but after reading your post I am determined to intake more vitamin C. Your post made me to think more on the subject and I am going to share this post with my aunt. In this polluted world we need to be very careful on what we eat, thanks a lot for helpful insights. Organic foods is the way to go!

Much Success!

    Good afternoon Paul,

May I also suggest that your aunt takes 3 big spoons of virgin coconut oil each day? Coconut oil is fuel for the brain and many people with Alzheimers or Dementia have improved doing this. 1 Spoon in the morning, 1 at midday and the last in the evening. It is easy to do, does not taste bad and well worth a try.

We have forgotten nature as humans always think they can do it better. With all the health care that exists nowadays, people have only gotten sicker. To start eating organic is the best you can do. Take care your drinking water is clean and exercise in good air. It means a shift in the way we live and think but our health will improve.

Thank you for your comment. I hope you downloaded your free PDF?

My husband’s uncle is currently suffering in the later stages of Alzheimers, and it’s such a cruel disease. Seeing how fast he has declined has motivated me to do all the research I can on how to give my family the best possible chances of not suffering with the same condition, which is how I found this article. Thank you for all of the diet recommendations. It seems that the more we can get back to our natural diet, the more our health will improve.
