An unfamiliar look at the Human body

What our Teeth and Intestines tell us about the Food we should be eating.
A new understanding of the Human Body, as seen from an Eastern perspective.

Jnanavator Swami Sri Yoekteswar lived from 1855 to 1936. He is known in the West because of the book “Autobiography of a Yogi” as he is the Master of Paramhansa Yogananda.

The difference between Eastern and Western points of view

Western Medicine has its own way to look at the human body and in general, only treats the symptoms that appear when the body is out of balance meaning ill.

In the book “The Holy Science” written by Jnanavator Swami Sri Yoekteswar, we are shown a completely unique approach to how we should understand the human body by studying the teeth and the intestines. This knowledge puts an entirely new light on things that I personally find very interesting and well worth taking into consideration.

A Natural Lifestyle

Do we humans still maintain a natural lifestyle? I think most of us do not anymore. The way how we live is depending on various things like our choice of food, the place where we chose to live, and also with what kind of people we surround ourselves with.

We are born with instincts that should save guard us against harm. We have been given the gifts of sight, hearing, touch, smell, and taste, but most of us have lost the capability of using them. To then understand what our natural needs are, we are left with observation, experience, and intelligence.

The Question is, what is the Natural Food for Men?

To get an answer to this question, we should look at the different organs we have been given. Let us have a look at our teeth and the digestive tract. We should also take into consideration what our senses tell us about food. The same way animals are led to their food.

The observation of our Teeth gives important information

Animals that eat meat have corner teeth that are long, smooth, and pointed, ideal for getting hold of their prey. Their back molars are also pointed but these do not close upon each other but fit next to each other so as to be able to tear the meat.

Plant-eating animals have big front teeth and the corner teeth are flat, the back molars are broad.

Fruit-eating animals have teeth that are similar in length. The corner teeth are not pointed but more rounded, and enamel completely covers the back molars.

Now animals which eat everything like is the case of bears, the front teeth are the same as from plant-eaters, the corner teeth like from meat-eaters, and the back molars are pointed as well as broad.

When we now compare human teeth to the aforementioned examples, we find that our teeth are those of fruit eaters.

Information on our Digestive Tract

When we observe the digestive tract of meat-eating animals, we see that it is 3 to 5 times as long as its body, measured from the point where food enters to where it comes out, to say it in a nice way. The stomach has a near-ball formed shape.

The animals which eat plants have intestines that measure from 20 to 28 times the length of their body, and their stomach has an elongated shape.

Fruit-eating animals have their intestines from 10 up to  20 times longer. Their stomach is broader and has a continuation in the Duodenum, which serves as a second stomach.

This is exactly the same as with the human digestive tract. Current medical knowledge tells us that the human intestinal tract is between 3 to 5 times the length of the body, but here the mistake is being made by measuring from the top of the head to the sole of the feet.

The Holy Science

This book was written in 1894 and is an unusual book. Keep an open mind when reading it. The book introduces ideas that were revolutionary for the time and probably still are.

The writer, Swami Sri Youkteswar, was an educator, an astronomer, a Jyotisha (Vedic astrologer), a yogi, and a believer in the Bhagavad Gita and the Bible.

In the introduction, he wrote: The purpose of this book is to show as clearly as possible that there is an essential unity in all religions; that there is no difference in the truth inculcated by the various faiths; that there is but one method by which the world, both external and internal, has evolved: and that there is but one Goal admitted by all scriptures.

Conclusion

Taking beforehand into consideration, one comes again to the conclusion that humans are fruit eaters.

I find this a very logical interpretation. I have cut out a lot of man-made foods and eat more natural foods, including more fruits. I do eat meat and fish sometimes. A lot less than in the past. The fact that our nose and our eyes do not like the smell or sight of a slaughterhouse and that these places are mainly kept out of sight does make one think.

I found this interesting video of Deepak Chopra, which illustrates the difference between the way how the West thinks compared to the East. We should relearn to use all the gifts and capacities we were given at birth. These were kind of lost because of modern life.

Food, water, and air are the basics a human needs to survive. You can survive a long time without food. Water is needed every day, and most people get into trouble after not drinking for 3 days. I wrote a post on the different types of water you might care to read.

Hi Taetske,
I have to bookmark this for reference. As a “fruit eater,” I should try and eat more of it and less of what comes from slaughterhouses. This is a wonderful site and very informative. Thanks for the awesome information!

Cheers!

Dear Taetske,

That is really a very interesting article. Thank you very much. Makes you start thinking in a totally different way concerning the food we eat. Would be an interesting book to read.

    Good evening Yasmin,

Thank you for visiting my website. The book in question is very interesting indeed, but it is translated from English into Dutch which is the language of the book I have. I also find this theory unusual but when you really think about it, it makes sense.

I read an article very similar to this some years back, it made me really think and wonder to the extent that I stopped eating meat or fish or even using why accessories made from an animal. I have been a successful vegetarian for five years now and I feel great!.. This was such an inspiring article and I hope it touches the heart of people and helps them understand and wonder.

Thank you for this inspiring article,

Solomon.

I admire you for the change you made years ago. One can be very healthy living as a vegetarian as long as you take care to get your Vitamin B3. My personal food evolution has not been that drastic, it is more slowly evolving. I do eat meat and fish sometimes but not often. I try to buy bio as then I know the animals are leading a good life and also get natural food. I eat a variety of nuts and seeds also eggs from my happy chicken.

We definitely, have to get away from the junk food humans are producing. Eat as close to nature as possible is the best option.

Growing up studying science my entire student life, I always thought that humans are omnivores. I do feel however that modern men are consuming more meat and processed food than what our ancestors used to. Even though our dentition may reveal otherwise, I think it’s challenging to get modern people to eat fruits for most part of their day. Maybe more fruits and vegetable portions on the plate would give us a healthy meal balance.

    Good afternoon Cathy,

Our trouble started when we tried to improve on nature. Nature provides for most of our needs. We thought it to be a good idea to genetically manipulate, then spray with pesticides, give it polluted water, additives with unpronounceable names, wrap it in plastic, and then put it in the microwave oven. What have we done to ourselves? Our health has not improved, rather the contrary as now there are many ailments that are food related.

I live on a farm in the south of Spain and am blessed with the possibility to grow things myself. I realize that I must be very grateful for this as most of the time I know what I eat.

Thank you for your comment. I hope you downloaded your free PDF?

Excellent article that brought to mind not only the comparison of humans teeth to the animals known eating patterns, but also to the Christian Judeo understanding of our basic design as vegetarians  to dwell in the garden. It wasn’t until chapter 6 after the flood that after a year at float the ark rested on dry, but barren land.  That is when we became omnivores.  and I suppose that if I stuck to vegetables I would live longer better.

So your hypothesis about teeth and proposed diets is confirmed in my eyes.

    Good Morning Rod,

Thank you for your comment on my post. I hope you downloaded your free PDF?

That is an interesting point you come with. In the garden of Eden people lived in peace and harmony with creation. In nature, they would find all the food they needed without the need of killing and destroying. Our evolution has not been the best.

If we still want to eat meat sometimes,  then we should take care it is bio meat. At least the animals are living in good conditions eating natural food. Eating more fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds is a good idea. Man-made foods are killing us.

Thank you for this great information well explain it.

After reading this article I came to realize that I don’t know nothing about my body, I think I should start paying attention more of what I eat. I will start eating more fish, vegetables and fruits.

I will bookmark and share your article with friends and family.

    Good Morning,

I think that is an excellent idea to eat more vegetables and fruits. Eggs of happy chickens and bio meat now and then will not hurt either. Skip the soft drinks and fast food as much as possible and you will feel a lot better.

This article is quite interesting, although it would be really difficult for me to abandon meat for a strict fruits and vegetables only diet. I think the key element in things like this is balance. A healthy portion of everything shouldn’t cause so much harm right? Meats are a good source of protein, I’m sure they would do my body some good work, repairing worn out tissues and the rest.

    Good Morning Zuchii,

Nice to see you again. Thank you for your comment.

Each person is different so not all foods have the same effect. Rule of thumb is to try and eat as “clean” as possible. Back to nature as there, we will find all that is needed for our health. In case you want to eat meat now and then it is not a problem but try to buy bio meat. The animal is treated well and given good food so it will not harm you when you eat it.

Linda Frankson

So nicely explained Teatske, I absolutely love the video of the holy man. I have tried to explain the importance of water. But like many things we tend to overthink ourselves.

Reverance has always played a very special roll in our existence. Just a very simple way is blessing the food before we consume it and that practice has been put aside by the world of Science.

The spiritual side of us plays a very important part of our existence.
Our structure is the most sophisticated system ever been created.

To understand this we need to understand not only the physical side of us but the mental, emotional and spiritual side to live in harmony with the creation and yes we find these practices bestowed upon us from Grace upon Grace.

Not only do we become closer to mother earth we become closer to creation itself.

Always a better way

    Good afternoon Linda,

Thank you so much for stopping by again and leaving a comment.

I often get the impression that a lot of people are out of balance. The harmony between our physical with the mental, emotional, and spiritual is lost. Too much emphasis is put on the physical part of being a human.

Too much of I want to have and less on how I want to become and evolve. A good thing would be to do a big detox of all these bad man-made foods we have been eating for too many years That would help getting rid of the big amount of aggressiveness one can see nowadays.

Another detox of silly shopping for things we do not need and then a detox of all the modern gadgets we surround ourself with every day and night. Probably best would be to go and sit on a deserted island for some time. We should try and find an answer to the question of why we are here on earth.

I hope to see you again, all the best.

Pernilla

Hello Taetske,
How very interesting! Yes, by examining nature we can learn a lot.
I rarely eat meat. I choose to eat fish and poultry a couple of times per week because protein is essential for the proper body functions.
Eating as naturally as possible is the key to health, you are so right, Taetske. It is rather difficult in this era of processed foods. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and show the way to a healthier life.
Best wishes,
Pernilla

    Good Morning Pernilla,

Thank you for your visit and leaving a comment. Nice to see you again.

When men started to make “food” it went wrong. Why we always want to improve on nature I don’t understand. We have been fooling our tastebuds with man-made foods for a long time and our health is going down the drain.
I eat a lot of eggs from my happy chickens. At the moment there is a mother with 8 little babies. I was worried because of the hot weather but up till now, they are doing fine. The 2 other mothers who raised 8 children lost some of them. That often happens as not all are strong and 2 drowned in the small duck pond. Those are the dramas I have on the farm.

Thank you, Taetske for this well written article and it also made me think even deeper, as I already do, how far we have drifted away from our instincts and especially from Nature.
I too try to do better but sometimes it seems that we, the humans, are not allowed to do better too many bricks and stones are standing in the way.
And yet, we have to do better and keep going to better ourselves with a more founded and healthier understanding that everything is connected, all the time no difference here.
Love the video too, thank you for sharing 🙂

    Good afternoon Sylvia,

Thank you for your comment. Nice to see you again.

That book I mentioned in my post is very special. So different from what we are used to reading in the West. We are not in harmony with nature anymore and this has caused all kind of consequences. When we as grown-ups cannot transmit the right values to the younger generation and they, in turn, cannot either the problem only gets bigger. We all form part of Creation, as you said, everything is connected.

The conclusion you come to is that we are fruit eaters primarily.  I think we are omnivores, we eat a little bit of each.  We need a well rounded diet.  The old saying is you are what you eat.  So stay away from the garbage foods.  We don’t have a second stomach like the fruit eaters, even though we may have the teeth like the fruit eaters.

    Good Morning Anthony,

Thank you for stopping by and for your comment. I hope you downloaded your free PDF? Tulip widget.

It was not my private conclusion. I read about it in the book The Holy Science of Swami Sri Youkteswar. I do agree with him and find it very logical. I inherited the book from my grandmother, who was a Sufi.

In paradise, Adam and Eve were allowed to eat the fruit from all the trees minus the forbidden one.. Animals and people were living in harmony till that day came. Well, you know the rest of the story.

If we eat a little of everything, then at least it should be natural. Humans always want to improve on nature and that has disastrous effects on our health. You buy something wrapped in plastic and when looking at the label you cannot pronounce the words and neither know what it means. We are eating crap.

Going back to nature, eat as natural as possible including seeds, nuts, vegetables and lots of fruits would make us live longer, happier and without ailments.

    Regards, Taetske
