Beware of Franken-foods, they are bad for you
Have you heard the word Franken-foods before but do not really know what it means? I will help you with an explanation to lift all doubts. This definitely is not a healthy alternative, and I will explain why.
Do not try to improve on Nature
Before we go into this, I would like to ask you this question. Why is it that humans always want to improve on nature? I have written a post on the excessive use of plastic wrappings. Why should one need to wrap fruits and vegetables which come in their own natural protective wrapping, their peel or skin? Then we also want to improve the taste? Why is that? An apple should taste like an apple, not like a banana, right?
The biotech industry is doing some brainwashing again. They are doing their best to improve the shelf life of fruits and vegetables. One should really ask how they are manipulating the things we will be eating. Just imagine, would you like to eat peach-flavored strawberries?
Monsanto is considered the most hated company worldwide. They have earned their reputation, no doubt about that. Whatever they do should be closely observed, as it will influence our health. That is why one should be informed of the latest happenings, this is important for you and your family.
GMO is updating
You have probably heard of GMOs. It is nearly everywhere, and it is bad for us. As if this is not enough, some more and more dangerous manipulation is coming our way. Have you heard of a company called Pairwise Plants? This is a new California-based company helmed by two Harvard scientists. One would think what comes from Harvard is good, well not in this case, as we can use science for good or bad.
Pairwise Plants has come up with something really pretty. It is a gene-editing tool, known as CRISPR-Cas9 (an acronym for Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats) I know, it is a mouthful. Normal GMO technology inserts foreign genes within a plant’s genome. This new gene-editing tool goes a step further and deletes or changes genes already in the plant DNA code.
Monsanto is at it again
Monsanto has invested 125 million in Pairwise and has become the exclusive collaborator. This happened in March 2018 and should make us be on alert.
This new tool can change the look and also the flavor of fruits and vegetables. It would be possible to heighten the content of carotenoids, or of the cancer-fighting substance sulforaphane. Somehow it sounds good because one gets the impression that fruits and vegetables get more healthy for us having more nutrients, vitamins, minerals, etc.
The fact that these changes happen faster than with the traditional GMO crops, which take years to change, this alternative method makes it possible to have these enhanced edibles come on the market after one or two crops. What should we worry about, sounds very positive, don’t you think?
Be informed with this book
The writer Dr. Michael Wald states that anyone who is interested in educating themselves in staying healthy needs to be informed on GMOs and related topics. This book will help you understand the whys and hows of it all.
It is by far not so good as you might think
You have all heard the word mutations. You might relate this to a horror film where people mutated to zombies. Wikipedia explains that mutations result from errors during DNA replication or damage caused by exposure to radiation or carcinogens.
Many of the foods that are available at the market have high levels of glyphosate and other niceties added. This can cause havoc on our DNA, and as our systems start the repair process, it can change our DNA in the wrong way.
Now comes the bad news
Last May in Nature Methods they published a study. They found that this new tool CRISPR was causing mutations. Not the mutations that were intended. These undesirable mutations, call it a side effect of this method, were happening by the hundreds and could cause unforeseeable consequences.
You could say that the scientists who were meddling with DNA codes lost control over their experiment. They performed these tests on mice. Now you might discount this because it happened with mice and not with humans. That is where the problem lies.
Molecular geneticist and GMO expert Dr. Michael Antoniou warns that even the smallest changes could cause unintended effects. Imagine when the function of an enzyme is disrupted, this can call forth unpredictable biochemical reactions. The computers used to screen for the appearances of these unforeseen mutations were not able to find them.
There you see that interfering with nature can have serious consequences, many of which we have no idea what they are. When we start to eat foods that are manipulated on a DNA level, what will happen next nobody can say. But it seems sure that this type of food will soon stand on the shelves.
Do listen to this good YouTube as it explains the GMOs very well.
The information which is hidden from us
3 days after Monsanto joined in partnership with Pairwise, the study was officially retracted, swept under the carpet. It is happening again. Monsanto has always claimed Roundup is not dangerous for our health. Now they have hundreds of court cases coming their way. In the first case of Mr. Johnson claiming he is dying because of using Roundup for many years, Monsanto was found guilty and fined more than 200 million in compensation to Mr. Johnson.
Monsanto avoids responsibility, again
In the U.S. there is no obligation to put GMO on a food label. This pleases Monsanto. Now they are again squeezing themselves out of responsibility again. The USDA will not put strict regulations for CRISPR modified fruits and vegetables. Their reasoning is that this could have happened in nature through traditional plant breeding methods and everything is fine.
As the CRISPR does not add genes, it only changes or deletes them. These foods are not considered GMO, and that is why Monsanto gets away with it.
In the past, Monsanto has forced farmers to buy new seeds, from Monsanto of course, as they had produced sterile “terminator” seeds. It will not be allowed to use this alternative method on seeds and spread genetic traits. Also, CRISPR is not to be used to modify tobacco used for smoking. The restrictions are far too few to feel safe as the consumer is being kept in the dark as usual.
This non-profit organization provides the people with the latest news on GMO. They say that this new genome-editing should be at least as strictly regulated as the “normal” GMO. Well, we have seen that it has been far from good or positive for our health.
This meddling with nature is like opening the box of Pandora. The only way we can defend ourselves is by being informed about what is happening. Boycott all products which contain GMO and buy organic to stay on the safe side.
Here is a list of all the companies who produce products containing GMO. Monsanto is laughing in the background. Do not let this harm you or your family.
More and more, I feel cheated and realize that the health of the population is not important to the food producers of the world. We are being manipulated on a big scale. The only defense one has is to boycott these products and eat organic as often as possible.
I have made a special page for my visitors called Recommendations. I hope you will find something of your interest there. Have a look.

I live on my little farm since 1981 and have learned quite a few things over the years. Perhaps you would like to read my post on my personal experience with Roundup.
